Dr. Mikhail’s Story

The first memory I have of going to the dentist is as an eight-year-old growing up in Montreal, Canada. My Mom wakes me up for school and to her surprise; the right side of my cheek is swollen like a tennis ball. I looked as if someone punched me in the face. As we arrived at the dentist’s office, I was ushered into a chair immediately due to the dental emergency I was having.

The dentist diagnosed with me an infection on my baby tooth which needed to be extracted. As any frightened eight-year-old, I brace for the onslaught of pain – as the dentist struggles to get the stubborn tooth out from its place. Once the painful experience is complete, I had obvious aversion to dentists.

Fast forward almost two decades later, at 26 years old, I graduated dental school from Temple in Philadelphia. How did this happen? Well, first I must always thank my family for always allowing me to pursue my dreams and challenging me. My parents and brother have been a source of inspiration for me since I was a kid. My family moved from Canada to New Jersey, when I was 13 years old. I went to South Brunswick High School then Rutgers in New Brunswick, where I completed my undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences. Since I had finished my undergraduate studies a semester early, I spent 8 months readying myself (physically and mentally) for dental school. I graduated from dental school in 2018, that same year I met the love of my life, my best friend and life partner, my wife Sherri. Without her and my family growing up, I simply would not be the man I am today.

I chose dentistry simply for the fact that it is one of the few careers that combines science, art and interpersonal relationships.

After dental school, I spent time working as an associate for a corporation, then a private practice; after 5 years, I decided it was time to have a practice with my great partner and friend Dr. Peter Mikhail. SiRa Dentistry was created with the vision to be a trusted family practice run by family, to respect and improve the quality of your life through the art and science that is dental therapy.

We’re here to develop life lasting relationships with our patients. I don’t want any eight-year-old (or anyone of any age) to feel the way I did about dentists. We’re here to challenge the widespread notion that going to the dentist must be uncomfortable or painful. I am honored and grateful to be back here, in Middlesex County, to serve the community that has provided me with so much in my earlier years.

Dr. Mikhail’s Story

Some of the best memories I have of my Dad come from those dinners around the family table. Our meals were full of warmth and laughter, where a story could last longer than the meal itself. I remember one evening vividly. We were in the middle of a roast chicken dinner when my Dad got a sliver of chicken bone lodged between his teeth. At first, it was funny —until he couldn’t get it out and his discomfort became clear. I felt this pull to help him, to somehow make it right.

I grabbed a toothpick, focused and steady, and with a little patience, I finally freed the bone fragment. My dad beamed, looked at me, and said, “You’ve got the hands for this. Maybe one day, you’ll use them to help others, too.” The pride in his voice filled me with a sense of purpose I hadn’t felt before, and the idea that I could use my hands to bring relief and care stayed with me long after that night.

When it came time to choose a career, I was drawn between my fascination for Neuroscience and the practical, immediate rewards of Dentistry. Neuroscience was thrilling, an intellectual challenge, but Dentistry offered something different—a blend of science and artistry that could bring people happiness in real time. I craved the satisfaction of seeing my work make a tangible difference, of knowing I’d given someone a reason to smile. It was that blend of ego, of wanting to excel and be trusted, and the pure gratification of bringing relief that ultimately led me down this path.

In dental school, I became the first in my family to enter the field. And when my father passed away during those years, the gravity of my choice deepened. It felt like a calling, a way to honor him, to uphold the legacy of kindness and care he’d instilled in me. Dentistry became more than a career; it was a mission that kept me going, even in moments of grief. Each course I aced, every patient I helped, felt like a tribute to him and his belief in me. His absence became my drive, pushing me to not only finish school but to become exceptional in my craft, to build something lasting.

That journey led me to co-establish SiRa Dentistry, a family practice in every sense. Without outside corporate influence, our focus remains on genuine patient care. I didn’t want to be just another dentist under a large corporate banner; I wanted a practice where we could focus on people over profits, where patients feel like family. My journey to dentistry influenced not only my life but also my family’s. Other relatives have since followed in my footsteps, inspired to join the field because they saw what it brought to my life and the impact I was making. It’s deeply fulfilling to see them embrace this path and to know that SiRa Dentistry is shaping more than smiles—it’s shaping futures, both within and outside our family.

Today, I am proud to be the first dentist in my family, to have started a practice rooted in values rather than corporate agendas. Dentistry for me is a legacy, a way of life that embodies reward, resilience, and the belief that even small acts of care can make a world of difference. Through SiRa Dentistry, I carry forward my dad’s spirit, fostering trust and comfort with every patient, every day.
